STAR RATING

In this modern era, it is possible to replace traditional marking with more efficient and effective alternatives. The problem with the overemphasis of marking is that it often obscures the true purpose of assessment. The only function of assessment is to inform the student of what they know and can do during or at the end of a unit of learning compared to what they should know. Formative tests are meant to act as a diagnostic tool to improve instruction so that the instructor can identify muddy areas and alter instruction to better suit the learners’ needs. D-ART looks to empower students by helping getting a better handle on their interests, personality type and aptitude. Though conventional methods will never completely go away, combined with the approach that D-ART adopts, it can become far less onerous. The students will not be given percentiles or the ranks, but they will be given a star rating to appreciate and award them for the extraordinary creativity they possess.

D-ART results will reveal the complexity of learning rather than reducing them to a single number or grade. When we reduce students’ intellectual ability to a single number or grade, we overlook the diversity of talents and strengths that they inherently possess. The idea to bring the star rating in picture is to make the students feel like a star about the strengths and creativity they possess. When a student will be called a 5-star kid in the D-ART fraternity, he/she will be the candidate most looked upon when it comes to creativity, innovation and human intellect.
